The magistrate's role as a judicial worker is to provide advice and arbitration in courts of law. A court magistrate may have the responsibility of passing sentence on the defendant. In some cases, it is the duty of the magistrate to judge civil legal cases and determine the defendant's liability. Their administration of justice in criminal cases is dictated by the laws of the country or by regional statutes. Magistrates have rights to perform wedding ceremonies and to grant licenses for marriage.
