Court clerks create the court schedule of cases to be heard, and process legal records. Clerks send the participants information with the trial details and are responsible for preparing documents and case folders, as well as proofreading legal documents to ensure proper procedures were followed. They verify case folders prior to each case being heard and ensure that the correct records and documents are available in the case folder. They retrieve copies of any missing documents and collect information for judges. They provide the district attorney's office with information regarding cases they prosecute and prepare forms for the judge on the day of the hearing or trial. Court clerks administer oaths to witnesses, gather and record court fees and fines and file public records, such as mortgages, marriage licenses and deeds.
